In January of 2020, we were hired by Michelle Swiney-McCombs of MichelleSwineyHair.
Mrs. Swiney-McCombs is a celebrity hairstylist, brand ambassador, and educator. She has been the owner of MichelleSwineyHair, a New York City-based mobile luxury beauty service for the past 10 years.
Mrs. Swiney-McCombs hired us for a long-term sustainability project providing sustainability strategy consulting for her brand and also in the construction of an eco-friendly salon for her business. She wanted to help the environment by using non-toxic products and achieve a healthier environment for her business and clients.
Our first course of action was to virtually consult with Mrs. Swiney-McCombs outlining the environmental problems associated with salon activities, including increased energy and water consumption, the use of toxic hair products, and waste from single-use beauty products. From there, we conducted a thorough audit of her business to find out the challenges and limitations we faced. After her audit, we provided her with a professional assessment, defined our sustainability objectives, and decided on a custom sustainability strategy for her business.
After deciding on her sustainable strategy, we focused on implementing them into her business. The sustainable strategies we helped Mrs. Swiney-McCombs implement included the installation of water conservation tools to help reduce the amount of water used while washing hair, energy conservation equipment, LED lighting throughout the salon to conserve electricity, eco-friendly hair products, and new eco-friendly cleaning products.
When asked about the impact of our green business consulting on her business, Mrs. Swiney-McCombs said:
“I have definitely seen positive results as I was unaware of how important it is to be eco-friendly and how it affects my daily living and business”
She unveiled her eco-friendly salon on September 28, 2020.
